The Truth About Casey Graham and The Change Group

Let me begin by saying that Casey Graham does not know that I am writing this post about him and to be honest would probably not like the fact that I am doing so.

For the last 12 months I have had the privilege of working with Casey, learning under his leadership and getting to know the man behind the “Get Fired Up”, passionate personality. Many of you reading this may have met Casey in person, listened in on a conference call or heard Casey speak and thought, “who is this guy, and what is his deal?” “Why is he getting so fired up over something as boring as church finances?” “Is this guy for real or is he just a salesman looking for another contract?” “Does he really care about me and my church?” So after following Casey closely for the past 12 months, I want to share the behind the scenes truth about Casey Graham and The Change Group.

1.) Casey Graham’s Passion and Heart for Changed Lives for Jesus is Second to None. I 100% believe that if Casey Graham did not believe that what he is doing and that the principles that he is teaching was not going to have Kingdom Impact in your church and community, he would not do what he is doing. I have seen him leave a church and cry out to God on your behalf, when no one else was looking. He really does care about your church!

2.) Casey Graham Believes in You. If there is one single quality that you should know about Casey, it is that he truly believes that whether you are a pastor of a church of 25 or a church of 25,000, he believes that you can fully fund your vision, and that you can be free of financial worry. He believes that you can become the pastor or person that you want to become. You will feel his belief in you the moment you begin talking to him. Try me and see.

3.) When Casey Says That He Wakes Up Thinking About Your Churches Finances He Means It. I have never been around someone that lives out what he preaches more than Casey Graham. He goes to bed thinking about how to help you create more money for ministry and wakes up with a solution. He models giving and generosity more than anyone I have ever seen. His agenda really is helping others reach their dream + nothing.

4.) The Financial Practices that The Change Group Teaches Really Do Work. Listen, I don’t care if you ever call Casey Graham and The Change Group. I will never even know if you even read this blog or not. All I know is that if you put into practice the principles and strategies that The Change Group teaches, you will see a very significant increase in giving in your church. Bottom Line! Any money, fee, or charge that you pay for coaching, resources, etc., if any, will be a drop in the bucket of the return for your investment. I have seen it happen time after time, I have heard it story after story. Where else can you get a money back guarantee for coaching?

5.) You Are Not Just Another Church, You’re Not Just Another Client, You’re Not Just Another Pastor. Casey truly does value friendships and relationships more than anything else. When the mics are off, the cameras have been shut down and the doors are closed, Casey Graham and The Change Group loves you, prays for you and wants the absolute best for you and your church.

If you want to see a difference this year in your church, if you have vision and dreams but a lack of funds or strategies on how to accomplish them, you need to contact The Change Group today. It will be the single greatest investment you will ever make in the life of your church, it will be a catalyst for changed lives through Jesus!

Do You Have to Have Church for the Offering?

If you live in the southeast you know that if the weatherman (or woman) mentions the four letter “s” word (snow) it usually means 3 things.

  1. A mass exodus of bread and milk from the grocery stores.
  2. No school
  3. Church Planting Pastors praying hard that it melts before Sunday

Why is this? The bread and milk I’m not sure about. I guess there is something about a snow day that re-ignites that childhood passion for a PB&J and a cold glass of milk. The school closing is obvious. I’ll just admit it, we just don’t do snow and ice well in the south so schools close for safety purposes. While the first two are probably givens, the third does not have to be.

So here is my question for you. If you are a pastor, do you have to meet for the offering? Will missing a Sunday mean that you will have to dip into your savings (if you have any) to pay the bills for the month. Will a missed week put you so far behind that it will take weeks or even months to recover financially? If you answered yes, I want to help you prevent a missed Sunday or even two or three missed Sunday’s from ever being a cause of concern financially again. If there is anything more spiritually dangerous than a church finding themselves bound by having to meet for the offering, I would like to know what it is.

Moment for Show, Follow Up for Dough

I suppose the best lessons are the ones learned from experience. At age 37, I am learning more about myself today than I ever have before. After owning a real estate company, serving on staff at a large church, and now into the world of increased giving and fund raising coaching for churches, one thing is glaringly apparent about myself. I live for “The Moment”. I thrive in the moment, I am confident in the moment, I get people fired up and excited about what they can do and are going to do in the moment.

Sounds great right? Here’s the problem. It’s what you do after “the moment” (or the show) that produce the results. Why is this? It’s because the moment, or to get really practical, the service, is where emotions are strong, feelings are good, energy is high, decisions are made then days pass, reality sets in and you have to do something.  So how does this translate to you and your church?

You can have the greatest Sunday morning experience on earth, you can build excitement, you can get people to commit but without an extraordinary follow up and execution process you will not grow your church, spiritually, numerically or financially.

You can have 50 people indicate a spiritual decision or that they want to go public with their faith through baptism and that is unbelievable, but if you do not have a quick, effective follow up process for them 50% of them will fall by the wayside.

You can have a “new volunteer” push, get people fired up, get people signed up, but if you do not have a stellar follow up and plug in process, they will not get connected to your church through volunteering.

You can preach the world’s greatest series on vision and giving, get people “excited” about what’s going to happen, get them to commit to give, but if you do not have a strategy on how to follow up and keep the vision, the need, and the commitment in front of them, their excitement will fade, their commitment will plummet and both you and them will feel disappointment.

Having a great “product” is important, it sparks, it initializes, it draws, but to maximize results, to have lasting growth, you MUST have a system beyond the moment.

I LOVE helping churches create systems for success beyond the moment. I want to help you. Email me today at rsorrells@thechangegroup.tv or direct message me on twitter (link above) if you need a strategy for increase in your church!

Digital Giving 101 – Immediate Impact

If you have read more than one or two of my blog posts you have probably saw me mention, on more than one occasion, something called the 5 cycles of generosity that a church goes through annually. Today, I want to talk specifically about one of the cycles that I believe will have one of the greatest immediate impacts in your church while at the same time providing long term benefits over the life of your church.

It’s the Pre-Summer cycle of giving and it is all about Digital Giving.

What is Digital Giving? Digital Giving is simply people giving financially to your church by digital means. This can be done through online one time gifts, online recurring gifts, or people giving digitally through a giving kiosk in your church.

Why is Digital Giving crucial to the life of my church? If we are not already in one, we are moving closer and closer to a cashless society. For the most part, people just don’t carry significant amounts of cash on them anymore. Think about it, most of us have automatic payroll deposit, we have online bill pay, we order products online, we have debit and credit cards, that’s how we live our life, digital. And yet every Sunday, churches all across the country are passing a plate, basket or significant other to collect cash, and/or one of those other things called a check! If you want to create more consistent givers, create more opportunities for people to give, beat the summer giving slump and increase giving, there is no better immediate way than to have a digital giving strategy at your church.

What is online recurring gifts? Simply put, this is where someone or family in your church makes a decision one time that they want to give a certain amount weekly or monthly to your church, they set it up to be drafted out of they’re account automatically and then don’t have to worry about it anymore. When they are sick, they’re still giving, when they’re on vacation, they’re still giving. It is the #1 way to move people from “tippers” to consistent givers.

What is a giving kiosk? A giving kiosk is a piece of equipment set up in your church, strategically placed, where people can give by means of card, debit or credit. They simply swipe their card, enter an amount, and give. These can be desktop units or stand alone units. They pay for themselves extremely fast!

Where can I purchase a giving kiosk, set up recurring giving, or just find out more about digital giving? There are several places, my personal recommendation is Secure Give. Contact Stuart Baker, mention this blog, and if you decide to allow them to help you set up digital giving they will give you a discount on set up cost!

Is there a strategy on how and when to launch? YES. Having a launch strategy is VERY IMPORTANT to the success of your giving kiosk or getting people transitioned to recurring donations. Churches who just all of the sudden have a kiosk show up in their lobby or set up recurring giving, mention it one time and never again do not have near the success as churches who have a strategy on how to “launch” these new ways to give. I would love to personally connect with you and help you layout a plan on how to increase your giving digitally. If you would like to connect please email me at rsorrells@thechangegroup.tv.

GET STARTED TODAY, IT WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIFE OF YOUR CHURCH!

Pastors, Jesus had a plan. Do you?

If you have ever opened scripture, one thing that is extremely evident from Genesis to Revelation is that God had a strategy, a plan. Jesus didn’t seem to just live from day to day without objectives and without a plan on how to accomplish them.

One of my top priorities for 2011 is to help churches formulate a strategy on how to accomplish their financial goals and objectives. I want to get you on the path to becoming Fully Funded and Free from Financial Worry in 2011. If this is an area of concern for you in 2011, will you take a moment to complete the poll below so that I can gain an understanding of your greatest need this upcoming year?

Thank you! If you would like to further discuss how to accomplish your objectives this year, please email me at rsorrells@thechangegroup.tv.

The Danger of New Year’s Day

It’s funny to me how one day on the calender can bring about such a spirit of newness, change and hope. January 1. It’s a day that, just like August 13th, comes and goes every year, so what makes this day so different? It’s almost like we’ve been programmed to need symbols and markers. Days and events that symbolize or trigger certain things and that serve as markers for change or remembrance.

I personally happen to be one of these people and it effects me negatively in many ways. So here is the DANGER of New Year’s day, you see, when you combine a natural procrastinator with someone who looks for significant dates to begin some new thing or some new habit or practice it can mean weeks or months of “doing the wrong thing” while we are waiting for this “new day”. In some cases when the “new day” arrives it’s too late.

So here are some of my New Year’s resolutions. To not put off until tomorrow, what I need to change today. To not wait until 3 weeks before I go to the beach to start watching what I eat, to not wait until December to figure out how to pay for Christmas, to not wait until I hear from you before I call you, to not wait until it’s too late! I will not wait until a relationship has been damaged before I try to improve it. I will treat others the way I want to be treated. I will give more. I will not wait around for a new year to change my habits! What about you?

I want to challenge you to do the same. Don’t wait! Don’t look to that future day when you will become a better person, a better husband, a better wife, a better employee, a better pastor, a better friend, a better mom or dad, son or daughter. Remember, we are not promised tomorrow.

Do it today, do it every day!

Margin, Saving, Borrowing, and Building. Should You or Shouldn’t You?

Some of the most asked questions that I hear from pastors are asked around the subjects of budgeting, margin, saving, and when and how to make large purchases. (buildings, staff, etc.)  I have to say that while studying the Bible this morning I was convicted on some of the teachings that I read concerning margin, saving, borrowing, and yes even co-signing or being a guarantor for others. My tendency at times when I read convicting scriptures is to pass it off as just a different time or to think that those principles just don’t work in today’s culture. So I want to share what God’s word has to say about these things and pray that you will allow God to speak to you through them. And yes, these apply to CHURCHES and PERSONAL FINANCES.

1.) SAVINGS and MARGIN – Proverbs 21:20 says “Precious treasure and oil are in a wise man’s dwelling but a foolish man devours it.” likewise 1 Corinthians 16:2 says “On the first day of every week, each of you is to put something aside and store it up, as he may prosper, so that there will be no collecting when I come.” These verses are as clear as you can get. God’s word tells us to set aside money for saving and to create margin in our budget! I am amazed at pastors that have a “spend it all” mentality and call it faith.

2. Plan Before you Spend - One of the biggest questions on the minds of church planting pastors is this. “When should we build or buy?” Can you believe that the answer to that question is found in scripture? Contrary to Hollywood, build it and they will come, is not a wise mentality. Debt can handcuff you and your church. I’ve seen it happen.

Proverbs 24:27 says “Prepare your work outside; get everything ready for yourself in the field, after that build your house.”

Luke 14:28-30 I must say that the overall context of this passage is about the “cost of discipleship” but the example that Jesus gave is insightful into Jesus’ perspective on spending. “For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it? Otherwise when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, saying, “this man began to build and was not able to finish” WOW! I have personally seen churches who have done this very thing, began and couldn’t finish!

3.) Debt – Proverbs 22:7 “The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is the slave of the lender.” Romans 13:8 “Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law” Don’t get mad at me, I’m just telling you what it says!

Also read Proverbs 22:26-27 and Proverbs 6:1-5 concerning putting up personal property as security for debt (If you are a pastor considering this, PLEASE READ THIS FIRST) and being a guarantor or co-signer.

Why you should have a Giving Kiosk in your church.

There’s a lot of discussion these days on the pros and cons of using a giving kiosk as a method of giving in churches. First, just in case some of you don’t know what a “giving kiosk” is, let me explain. A giving kiosk is simply a device, either a desktop version or a stand alone version that allows people in your church to give to God by swiping a debit card instead of writing a check or placing cash in an offering plate.

The debate on giving kiosks amuses me. Most opponents of giving kiosk prefer and live life paying for things electronically (bills, eating out, groceries, etc.) but when it comes to giving at their local church all of the sudden technology becomes a big no, no. Anytime we speak about digital forms of giving, we always survey the audience by asking these questions. How many of you have more than $50 cash on you right now? How many of you have a blank check with you right now? The number of people who raise their hands to either or both of these questions are very, very low yet every week we pass a plate and ask people for cash and checks. Now don’t hear me wrong, these two ways of giving are perfectly fine, my question is, why not eliminate any excuse that someone may have to giving to your church? What’s wrong with having multiple ways to give? Why is it “spiritual” to give a cash or check but “nonspiritual” to give on my debit card?

Here are the pros to utilizing a giving kiosk in your church.

  • People don’t carry a lot of cash these days.
  • A lot of people do not “plan” on giving.
  • People that carry checkbooks are very limited.
  • Many times it attracts first time givers or people who would normally give nothing. (tippers)
  • You eliminate any barriers on why people don’t or can’t give.
  • It’s a small investment for the return. (around $2500 for desktop versions and $5000 for stand alone versions) Contact Stuart Baker at Secure Give for giving kiosk stats or to purchase one today.
  • It allows people to “manage” their giving.
  • Provides one more way for people to begin shifting their heart towards becoming a fully devoted follower of Jesus.
